Materials
Brass, ceramic and glass
The materials I design in, and the pieces I have made in each.
Material
Brass
Brass is where I started. I ran a brass manufacturing business before I designed anything, so it is the material I know best, from the factory floor to the finished piece. My brass pieces include cabinet knobs and backplates, door hardware and a door knocker. I finish brass in polished, satin, rose and antique brass, and in bronze or chrome plating.
Material
Ceramic
Ceramic is about glaze. Reactive and speckled glazes move in the kiln, so no two pieces are quite the same. I design ceramic cabinet knobs, door knobs and wall hooks, and develop each glaze and colour directly with the factory.
Material
Glass
Glass gives colour and light at the same time. My glass cabinet knobs are made in clear glass and soft tints, set on brass finish bases.
Working on next
Marble and bronze
Two materials are shaping my next pieces. Marble, for its weight and veining, set alongside brass. And bronze hardware, where I am learning how different patinas form and how each one deepens as it is handled, so the finish becomes part of the design.
